Using Martial Arts to Develop Character Is Not A Unique Idea
Martial Arts has been used to teach character development for thousands of years. Most of us have childhood memories of seeing Taekwondo Masters teaching life lesson to their young pupils. The difference today is how these lessons are taught. Children today want to have fun while learning.
American Dragon Martial Arts Academies has spent the past 30+ years perfecting our teaching methods and curriculum in order to make learning that’s not only fun, but relevant and exciting for our students. Our motivating instructors not only challenge and encourage our students to advance their skills in the practice of Martial Arts, but also to apply the character development lessons in every area of their life.
Our life skill lessons are easy to learn, practical to apply and very relevant to the challenges faced by our youth. Because most of our instructors are parents themselves, we know first-hand the challenges that our youth face. From bullying to striving for better grades, America Dragon Martial Arts Academies are dedicated towards teaching lessons within our classes that equips our students to handle life’s daily challenges and give them the best advantage possible.
What Will Your Son or Daughter Learn?
In every class every student is challenged to improve their Martial Arts skills by learning different curriculum that increases in intensity as they grow their skills. What’s more, in every class each student will learn a different lesson about what it means to be a Martial Artist, and how to apply these lessons to every part of their life. Students learn: How to Develop a Positive Attitude, Self-Discipline, Respect, Modesty, Courtesy, Integrity, Self-Control, and Perseverance. We teach these lessons through inspiring stories and candid discussions. But it’s more than just talking. Throughout the class students are challenged to apply the messages to their own training which helps them develop winning habits. Our students are encouraged to carry the messages with them as they leave the school – applying it to every area of their life. As a result, our students become leaders within their peer groups, academic achievers at school, and role models for the community.
Every Child Needs Unshakable Confidence
Our children need confidence. Without confidence they won’t stand up against negative peer pressure or bullying, nor will they develop and use their unique talents and skills. Without confidence a person will never realize their true potential. How do we develop this confidence?
Our Taekwondo school uses a positive reward system that encourages children to be and give their best. Through the motivation our instructors provide, we teach children to develop their own personal potential by looking for the good within themselves and believing in their own individuality. Our reward system of belt achievement teaches students how to set and attain goals. Through this belt achievement system, they also learn the value of working for things and the confidence that comes when you achieve your goals.
The Essence of Taekwondo Arts Has Always Been Respect
From its early stages Martial Arts has always taught the importance of respect for self, others and authority. Students are first taught respect through the protocol and the culture of our schools. Through this protocol, students learn how to respect authority, themselves and their peers. Students learn how to be more accepting of others and how to treat everyone as if they are important. Finally, students are encouraged to walk in integrity by practicing these lessons outside of the Taekwondo School. As a result, our students become more respectful at home with their parents and siblings and at school with their teachers.
Self-Discipline Is Doing Things Without Anyone Making You
Martial Arts has always been known for developing self-discipline. When most people think of martial arts, they immediately think of self-discipline. The more a student learns how to use their discipline to do the things they need to do without anyone making them, the more control they will have over their own life. At our school we teach and challenge our students to develop their Self-Discipline through a variety of ways. First, students learn to develop self-discipline through their training, however, it doesn’t stop there. Students are then encouraged and rewarded for using their discipline at home by doing things without being told. Doing homework and chores are great examples of how we encourage our students to practice and develop their discipline. Focusing their mind and body at school, turning in work on time, giving your best effort and following directions are all ways we help our students develop their discipline.
The Best Defense is Self-Defense
Self-Defense is one gift you can give a child that will help them for the rest of their lives. As parents, we naturally want to protect our children; unfortunately, we can’t always be there for them. The goal of our self-defense program is to teach our students how to protect themselves. Children are taught effective ways for defusing bullying, stranger awareness and tactics for avoiding confrontational situations. They are also taught hand to hand defenses. The children’s self-defense taught at America Dragon Martial Arts Academies is known as Taekwondo. Because we teach our students to be responsible and to temper their self-defense training with the philosophy of Martial Arts, children learn effective techniques for self-protection without learning how to be abusive themselves.
Finally, Taekwondo Is Good, Clean, Fun for Kids
We are very careful to mix the education of Martial Arts with the latest teaching methods for retaining our student’s interest. From our high energy classes to the latest curriculum that kids love to learn – we offer classes that make learning fun. It’s not all work too: American Dragon Martial Arts Academies offers many family activities to make it fun for the whole family. In the past we’ve offered family nights, buddy days, park classes, guest instructors from some of this country’s hottest Martial Arts TV Stars and World Champions, as well as kid’s parties and safety days.
Sounds too good to be true? It’s not!! Many of our instructors started training when they were children themselves. We have seen firsthand the positive benefits Martial Arts can have on children. Not to mention the hundreds of students that have made American Dragon Martial Arts Academies their place for self-defense and personal development.
